Gas for heating

Because natural gas is mainly comprised of methane it has good calorific value and is an environmentally friendly source of energy.

The burning of natural gas does not generate any of the harmful combustion residues, dust or soot you associate with other fossil fuels. In fact, all that is left behind is carbon dioxide and water vapour. And because natural gas is transported through pipelines and not by trucks or trains it helps reduce air pollution while easing the burden on traditional infrastructure.

Today, natural gas is one of the most affordable sources of energy in terms of both initial investment and running costs. Modern gas boilers are fully automated, designed and built to meet energy needs even during the cold winter months. By comparison, heat pumps require assistance from electricity during colder periods.

Gas for industry

Natural gas offers a number of opportunities for industry. In addition to the production of heat and electricity, high-energy natural gas can be used directly in industrial processes – for example in the glass and building materials industry – as well as a raw material for the chemical industry.

The calorific value of natural gas is around 10.5 kWh / m3, while its maximum combustion temperature is over 2100 ° C.  The use of natural gas enables flexible consumption depending on technological needs. In the absence of a gas pipeline it’s possible to build an LNG tank and regasification unit.

The use of natural gas enables the automation of combustion processes and natural gas achieves the desired combustion temperatures quickly and reliably.

Gas in transport

At EG Energija we provide natural gas for road transport and the bunkering of ships with compressed natural gas (CNG) being used primarily for land transport and liquefied natural gas (LNG) showing great potential for both sea transport and international road haulage.

EU Member States have established minimum requirements for their CNG and LNG refuelling infrastructure. The goal is, by 2025, to cover the EU main road network with CNG filling stations at least every 150 km and LNG gas stations at least every 400 km. The EU has also adopted an action plan for the development of an LNG bunkering network by 2025. EG Energija  intends to be involved in all of these goals.
